June 18, 2023 will mark 40 years since 10 Baha’i women were hanged in Shiraz. Their only ‘crime’ was their refusal to renounce their beliefs in a faith that promotes the principles of gender equality, unity, justice, and truthfulness. The systematic persecution of members of the Baha’i faith in Iran shows no sign of easing. For Iranian-born Bahai’s in Australia, gratitude and love for their adopted home is mixed with distress at the plight of their co-religionists back in Iran. We travel to the western NSW town of Dubbo to meet with Baha’is and talk about education, memories of life in Iran, and their hopes and fears for the future.

My dad, Dr. Alimohammad Hashemi, MD served the poor and disadvantaged patient in Isfahan, Iran for 45 years. He was a Baha’i. He was let go from his job in government Clinic because of his religion and lost his pension! I am so honored that Australian people voices raise the concern for these innocent Baha’is!
